Paderborn 1 - 0 Hertha BSC
Following Hertha's first defeat of the season last sunday to Paderborn, Monday nights game at the Olympicstadion provides the perfect platform for Hertha to get back to winning ways against Bochum.
With first choice keeper Maikel Aerts staying in Berlin for treatment on a knee injury, Hertha boss Markus Babbel picked Marco Sejna in goal. Berlin skipper Andre Mijatovic also missed the trip to Paderborn because of injury. Captain for the day was experienced defender Christian Lell. Up front, Nick Rukavytsya returned from injury, which meant that Raffael's brother Ronny had to revert to the bench, despite performing well during the 3-1 home win over Ingolstsdt.
To say Hertha started the game slowly would be an understatement, Hertha created no first half chances, despite controlling the play from midefield. Paderborn, who had collected all of their points (10) from their last four home games, sensed that Hertha were there for the taking and that points were up for grabs from the league leaders. The game was played out infront of a crowd of 12,261 at the Energieteam-Arena.
Hertha upped the tempo in the second half and looked the livlier side. However, it must be said that they failed to improve on thier overall game, despite appearing to have an improved grip on the Paderborn frontline. Goalmouth action remained a rare occurence.
The key point in the game was the sending off of Ramos. On 64 minutes, Ramos, whilst challenging for the ball in the air, not only hand balled it, but also elbowed the striker in the process. The penalty and sending off an easy decision for the Ref to make. The resulting penalty blasted high into the Hertha net.
Hertha now top the league by goal difference to newly promoted Erzgebirge Aue.
Viva Hertha!!
