The futures bright for Hertha and for Schulz

When friday evening rolled around, few people expected to see the name of 17 year old Nico Schulz on the team sheet. German born Schulz has come through the ranks at Hertha and the future looks bright for the youngest player to ever pull on the Hertha BSC shirt. Although sometimes recognised as a defender, the young lad played right wing, and 'took his chance' according to Head Coach Markus Babbel.

Perhaps what was more noticeable was the absence of Australian international Nikita Rukavytsya, who only days earlier opened his Hertha account with a goal in the 4-0 win over Karlsruhe SC. Rukavytsya has pretty much made the right wing position his own so far this season, however rumours in news articles are suggesting Markus Babbel is not impressed with his lax attitude in training. One reported stated that Nikita turned up 45 minutes late to the final training session before the Cottbus game which is why he was dropped. It remains to be seen if he will be re-instated for the next game against Alemannia Aachen.

Now back to the football. As most of you are probably aware by now, Hertha won the crucial game against Cottbus 1-0 on Friday night. The game was made more exciting due to Hertha's failure to kill the game of, and they almost paid the price when Ramos was forced to clear off the line late on. However, Rob Friend's 4th goal of the season was enough to ensure Hertha took the 3 points back to Berlin. A win that leaves them top of the table on 16 points, 3 points ahead of Energie Cottbus. It's still early days but lets hope the boys from Berlin can keep up this form and return to the Bundesliga at the first attempt.

The team are also due to soon have promising young midfielder, Fabian Lustenberger, return from injury within the next few games which will no doubt aid their cause of becoming 2. Bundesliga champions. We now just look forward to the game against Alemannia Aachen in the evening kick off on Monday 4th October under the lights at Olympiastadion.
