So we've barely even got to grips with following Hertha and before we know it the season is over, and we are getting used to the reality of being relegated from the Busndesliga. Ultimately it appears Hertha are paying the price for a very poor start to the season, despite fighting for the title the year before.
This week it was annouced that coach Friedhelm Funkel's contract would not be renewed, and I have just heard the rumour that former Liverpool defender Markus Babbel has been approached to take over next year. It also remains to be seen whether a number of the top players will stay with Arne Friedrich stating Hertha havn't even made an offer for him to stay.
Despite all this, we have already started planning our trips for next year and with 1860 München also playing in 2. Bundesliga a trip to the Allianz seems high on everyone's list. There will without doubt be another visit to the Olympiastadion, where hopefully we will be able to get tickets in the Ostkurve.
Now we have the summer to follow the World Cup and listen to silly season with the transfer rumours. We will also try to keep up to date with any Hertha BSC news, as and when we manage to find it.
Hey Chris, Jack, Jamie, Ollie and Kieran!
ReplyDeleteCool that you became Hertha fans and that you are writing a blog about the best club in the world :-) I'm quite a new fan myself (for about one and a half years now) and am really gutted that we have to play 2nd Bundesliga now...
I hope you will be able to come to Olympiastadion again next season, although it probably won't be as impressive as the game against Schalke. Unless you get tickets for the derby against Union!
I'm gonna follow your blog and hope to see you soon in Berlin ;-)
Oh, and I have a few questions: How did you become fans of Hertha BSC? Even in Germany that is an unlikely choice for most football fans.
Will you be able to follow the games live on TV, now that we're relegated?
Are you fans of any English clubs?
Greetings from Berlin,
Maria
Hi Maria,
ReplyDeleteGreat that we have found another Hertha fan!
Basically, I was desperate to visit Berlin, I heard and read so much about the city, that I couldn't wait to go and see it. So I suggested to these lads that we go and watch Hertha. The Olympiastadion really is a lovely stadium, the atmosphere for the Schalke game was electric too.
As far as we know, we are the only UK based Hertha Fan Club, which we think is pretty cool!
We are looking to go to at least 2 or 3 games next season and hopefully at least 1 away trip, most likely to be 1860 Munich.
Following the games on TV will be near impossible i'd imagine. Very rare that we see Bundesliga games, so now that were in Bundesliga 2, it will be hard to watch the mathces live.
I'm a season ticket holder with West Ham United FC and have been for 15 years now. Jack supports Arsenal FC and Kieran, Jamie and Olle all support Tottenham Hotspur FC.
One question for you... Can you tell us any chants that the Hertha fans sing? We couldn't translate them very well!
Regards
Chris
Hi Maria,
ReplyDeleteGlad to see we have our first follower! I think the derby against Union is a must! do you reckon it will be hard to get tickets?
Regards,
Kieran
Tickets next season should be easy to come by - They didn't sell out this season - only 61,902 for the Schalke game
ReplyDeleteIt's really hard to tell how the tickets will sell next season - for the Union game as well as in general. But if you buy the tickets very early (via internet/post?), then you'll certainly get some.
ReplyDeleteAbout the chants:
The most famous one is: "HA HO HE - Hertha BSC!"
As far as I know this chant is also really really old (from the 1920s or so).
"Hier regiert der BSC!" - Something like "BSC rule here!"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWWppVhoo7k - This is:
"Hertha BSC heißt unser Verein, Hertha BSC wird es immer sein!"
translation: Hertha BSC is the name of our club, it will always be Hertha BSC!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgDrXf2njiY
"In Berlin *clap-clap* An der Spree *clap-clap* Gibt's nur Hertha BSC!"
translation: In Berlin - On the Spree River - There's only Hertha BSC!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vy_kR0et0ck
"Wir sind blau-weiß, und das seit eh und je - Hertha BSC, Hertha BSC, Hertha BSC!"
translation: We are blue and white, and we have been since the year dot - ...
This should suffice for the moment :-) I chose simple ones for you ;-) But they are all frequently sung/chanted.
Thank you Maria, very much appreciated!
ReplyDeleteI really am looking forward to next season now, would especially love to see what the away support is like.
Thanks for your comments Maria, it's nice to see some people taking notice of the blog. Do you post on http://hertha.theoffside.com i find the articles on there are good to read and nice they are in English!
ReplyDeleteWe are all quite new to blogging, and was wondering if you could give us any advice to increase the amount of readers / traffic to the blog?
Thanks,
You're welcome.
ReplyDeleteI do read the posts on "The Offside" and comment on them occasionally. So if you see a user named "Maria" on there, that's me :-)
Mmh, obviously it's quite hard for you as British fans of Hertha to get some people to notice your blog - and actually be interested in it. I myself follow and comment on other (Hertha) websites (making my nick into a link to my website). That's how quite a number of people have found my blog.
Also, I'm on Twitter where I have built up a network of Hertha/football fans, who come by my site, too.
Other than that, I have no idea. As I've said, it's hard for you, since you don't understand German, so you can't follow German Hertha blogs. And there are probably not many international Hertha fans, either. We're not Bayern ;-) But good luck to you!
Oh, and if you keep it up, I might add you to my blogroll list :-)
